"warm and welcoming"

My life changed almost overnight in the fall of 2009.  A former client of mine was struggling with parenting her 9-month-old son.  She asked me to take Sylas for a weekend, as a licensed foster parent, so she could have respite time.   Seven months later,  I adopted Sylas joyfully and without a doubt knew that we were meant to be together as mother and son.

It has been difficult, however.  Sylas himself was struggling with medical issues and attachment disorders.  He couldn’t go to stores because of the overstimulation of lights and activity. Restaurants were impossible. So I brought Sylas one Saturday to Kidsplayce and, within an hour of arriving, I bought a family membership.  Kidsplayce saved us that winter. Sylas was able to crawl and explore safely.  The other parents were warm and welcoming;  I was very open with our story of adoption and found the other families confiding their stories of what brought them together as a family.  It felt so good waking on Saturday morning with an activity that supported both Sylas and me!

I honestly can’t imagine Brattleboro winters without Kidsplayce.  And I love that Sylas will grow up with happy childhood memories of play at Kidsplayce and not sitting in front of a television screen.

"a place where dreams come alive"
Kidsplayce is a place of wonder and imagination; where a kid can be a pirate braving the storming seas, where you must battle the troll that has taken hostage your bridge home. At KidsPlayce you could be a king defending his castle from assault or you could race down the maze of tunnels on your hands and knees with your friends laughing and having fun. I remember sitting in the back room with my mom reading books, or playing with the electro ball imagining I was a wizard staring in to my electric ball of prediction.

When I was 10 or 11 and still being home-schooled, I remember having the Home Schools Crafts Fare at KidsPlayce.  I helped my brother make lip bam and bird houses. My best friend Reilly traded with a friend of ours for a ginger bread house and I can remember him having it in his room for like 5 months, and every time I ate a piece it reminded me of all the good times at the KidsPlayce.

KidsPlayce will always hold a dear spot in my heart, it is truly a place where dreams can come alive and imagination runs wild and free, a place of endless possibilities.
